Malisa Home fights human trafficking

As part of the agenda against human trafficking, the German Doctors focus on making the inhabitants of the at-risk areas aware of the dangers and false hopes of human trafficking. With their “Rolling Clinics” (regularly scheduled ambulance tours) they provide not only medical help, but also information and education about the proceedings of human traffickers. These educational efforts have also become a core component of the Mothers Classes, which address impoverished segments of the population around Cagayan by means of occupational and health-related educational measures.

Furthermore, Malisa Home workers regularly visit schools in at-risk areas, to educate the children, both girls and boys, about the dangers presented by the human traffickers. The Malisa Home workers also visit popular nightclubs in the red-light districts, to inform the owners and visitors about current legal developments and risks. Police and port personnel are also included in the training measures. Within the framework of the Philippines discussion forums IACAT/RIACAT, experiences and practical examples are shared with other organizations and institutions – together they are able to find solutions for the most pressing problems.
